The Joinery will host an intimate and immersive sound installation as part of Culture Night 2012.
Silence / Sound is a collaboration between film-maker Pat Collins and sound designer Tadhg O’Sullivan that presents a unique sonic version of Collins’s recent debut feature film ‘Silence’.

The cuckoo calls from the well of my mind,
more echo than thought, as it fades through the wind
and flickers away to the silence beyond
like the voice, in myself, of another.

‘Insomnia in Southern Illinois’, by John Burnside

The film tells the story of Eoghan, a sound recordist who is returning to Ireland for the first time in fifteeen years. The reason for his return is a job offer: to record landscapes free from man-made sound. His quest takes him to remote terrain, away from towns and villages. Throughout his journey, he is drawn into a series of encounters and conversations which gradually divert his attention towards a more intangible silence, one that is bound up with the sounds of the life he had left behind.
Paring back what was already a sparse, meditative work, Silence / Sound is an immersive journey through the sonic geography of Eoghan’s route and in to the sonic memories that emerge from it.

Featuring the voices of Eoghan MacGiolla Bhride, Michael Harding, Hilary O’ Shaughnessy, Tim Robinson, Marie Coyne and Paul Rodgers. The singers are Nelie Nic Giolla Bhride and Eoghan MacGiolla Bhride. The music is by Akira Rabelais, Seán Mac Erlaine, Karl Burke and Damian Valles. Made by Pat Collins and Tadhg O’Sullivan. A South Wind Blows /Harvest Films Production. Based on the feature film ‘Silence’.
