In this work, Shelley Corcoran explores, through video, projection and photography, the psychiatric mechanism of displacement and how it can be both adaptive and undesirable.

Shelly examines how, when displacement is used to the extreme through fantasy and neurotic behaviour, the fine line between the rational and the irrational is blurred. Are we all capable, when faced with an out of the ordinary situation of resorting to displacement in the extreme?

Shelley Corcoran has exhibited both at home in her native Ireland in shows which include ev+a 2007 Curated by Klaus Ottman and abroad including 411 Gallery, China and more recently Hibbleton Gallery, CA and Bergamot Station Gallery, Santa Monica, USA as part of the Instant Gratification exhibition.
