Neil Carroll : Working Backwards

Neil Carroll : Working Backwards

18th Feb 2011 - 26th Feb 2011

Opens 18th Feb 6-8pm (this is a byob event) . Runs daily 12-6pm
Live performance Wed 23rd Feb 7.30pm sharp

Space is harnessed and manifested through architecture, which is designed around a specific set of predetermined needs. The thought process too, could be seen as systematised, structured and quantifiable – a learnt and mechanical response to a given environment. These types of systematised structures enclose the figure, limiting their experience and preventing further psychological expansion.

Neil Carroll’s new work is a multi-directional map that provides the viewer with a means to re-negotiate the structured space. He endeavours to achieve this by utilising the materials of construction (block, wood and paint) and restructuring the framework of conventional architectural techniques. Familiar architectural formations are interfered with to form a new ‘provisional architecture.’

During this show there will be an event by sound artist Guillaume Beauron in response to Carroll’s installation in the gallery environment. This improvised piece will comprise of electro-acoustic devices (using laptops, feed-backs, magnetic tape manipulations, objects amplified and prepared guitar).

Guillaume Beauron is a sound artist and composer. His horspiels and musique concrete pieces have been performed in several festivals across Europe. He also works as sound recordist and sound designer in film and radio.
