The Joinery off-site parts 2 and 3: Roscommon Arts and King House
28th Sep 2013
Workshop Roscommon Arts Centre, 10-4
Performance King House, Boyle, 8pm
In collaboration with the Roscomon Arts Centre and curator Mary Cremin, the Joinery off-site presents a series of projects which includes an exhibition and events by artists Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty, a sound workshop by Ed Devane and an evening of improvised music by some of the Joinery regulars. Events will take place in the Roscommon Arts Centre and King House, Boyle Co. Roscommon.
_______________________________________Part Two: Sound exploration workshop with Ed Devane (Roscommon Arts Centre):
Part two of the project will be a Sound exploration workshop with Ed Devane in Roscommon Arts Centre.
Musician and instrument builder Ed Devane will lead a one-day music workshop encompassing hands-on instrument building and group sound-making techniques. Participants will be introduced to a range of techniques and ideas relating to sound, performance and non-verbal communication. No previous musical experience required.
When not working as a workshop facilitator, Ed Devane is an active musician and musical instrument designer. Starting out as a beat producer, releasing several EP’s and an album under his own name, in recent years Devane has concentrated his musical output in more abstract sonic territory as ‘Withering Zithering’.
Part Three: The Joinery off-site presents: A night of improvised music:
Following later that day will be a night of improvised music in King House in Boyle by some of the Joinery regulars. Performances will be both collaborative and solo, utilising a wide range of instruments including grand-piano, viola, clarinet, bass-clarinet, synthesizers, home-made electronics, percussion and more. There will be no prescribed line-ups, the musicians will perform on an ad-hoc basis, the only goal being the improvisation process itself. For some of the performers this is an experiment in controlled noise, for others it’s an unknown melodic journey and for all it is the attempt to engage with other players in the creation of something coherent from the unknown during a live performance. Performers will include Ed Devane, Fergus Cullen, David Donohue, Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh, Dave Lacey and John Picardo.
