TWINKRANES are an experimental rock band from Dublin. The group was formed in Dublin in 2007. In 2009 the album “Spektrum Theatre Snakes” was released. The album melded the worlds of motor-driven kraut, space-rock, avant pop, psychedelic and drone.

NME hailed the album as ‘incredible’ and awarded the album a 9/10. Mojo magazine gave the album a 4/5 and the group recorded a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Waiting for the Worms” as part of a cover mount CD to celebrate the anniversary of the release of the classic album the Wall.

2010 saw the group embark on a string of high profile live shows including headline slots at Ireland’s Electric picnic, Berles Rock Festival in Switzerland and Freak Folk Festival Llama in Devon.

Towards the end of 2010 after a year of extensive live commitments the group became a duo and saw Dublin multi-instrumentalist Chris Carroll taking charge of synthesizers and electronics. In 2011 with the dynamics of the group altered, the duo took to the road to play a splattering of dates around Europe with much of the year spent honing a new heavier electronic sound of drums, synthesizers, vocals & drones.

In March 2012 the group set up a recording studio and moved from their long term base in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter to an industrial facility in the aptly named Blackpitts area of the city. In the following months the studio proved to be an integral component in the redesign of the groups working methods and sound. 2013 brought high profile shows with Finland’s KXP, New York space rockers White Hills an outing with industrial music legends Chris & Cosey (Throbbing Gristle, Carter Tutti) at the Cork Mid Summer Festival and Anto wrapped up 2013 as a member of the ever expansive Damo Suzuki Network with a storming 2 hour Improvised set at the Workman’s Club in Dublin.

Autumn 2013 also saw a return to recording commitments and the birth of an exciting collaboration with an avant-garde musician and sound artist from Bucharest’s Claudiu Ilariean. Currently working as a trio, the final months of 2013 have seen the collaborators filter and re-imagine TWINKRANES’ impenetrable electronic rhythms, experimental soundscapes and drones at their home in Blackpitts with a view to releasing new music in 2014.
